Bharat Bandh 2024: Schools, Colleges, Offices, and Markets Closures on August 21

The Reservation Bachao Sangharsh Samiti has planned a Bharat Bandh for August 21, 2024. This is in reaction to a recent ruling from the Supreme Court about SC/ST reservations. The bandh has support from SC/ST communities in Rajasthan. Many people are expected to join in. Authorities are ready & have been told to keep things calm during the protest.

Bharat Bandh 2024 Reason:

There’s a big fuss about the Supreme Court’s choice to let states make sub-categories within SC and ST groups. This decision stirred up lots of controversy. It says that those who really need help should get priority for reservations. However, various social & political groups don’t like this ruling. They believe it goes against the core idea of reservation. So, the Bharat Bandh wants to fight against this decision and ask for it to be changed back.

Bharat Bandh 2024: Authorities on High Alert

Police have increased their presence just in case there are problems. A meeting was held online with divisional commissioners, district magistrates, & top police officers. They’ve put Western Uttar Pradesh on high alert because it’s a sensitive spot. DGP UR Sahoo mentioned, “We’ve asked officials to meet with groups organizing the bandh and also talk with market associations to help things go smoothly.”

Bharat Bandh: What’s closed, what’s open?

The group behind the protest is asking businesses to close their markets, according to a TOI report. But it’s still unclear if all markets will actually shut down or if this closure will affect the whole country since market committees haven’t confirmed anything yet.

So far, it looks like public transport & private offices will be disrupted because of the bandh. Yet, emergency services like ambulances will still work as usual. According to reports, government offices, banks, schools, colleges, & petrol stations plan to remain open despite the Bharat Bandh call. Plus, essential services such as medical help, drinking water, public transport, railways, and electricity will keep running too!
